CUNY Graduate Center

The Graduate Center of The City University of New York (CUNY) is located at 365 Fifth Avenue, between 34th and 35th Streets. We are one block east of the 34 St-Herald Square subway station (B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, W lines) and one block west of the 33 St station (6 line). If you like walking, it is a walkable distance from most of Midtown Manhattan and even the Village where NYU is located. It is a short subway ride (approximately 7 minutes) between The Graduate Center and NYU.

Access and Registration

As you walk into the building, tell the Security officers that you are attending the HiSoN conference. Proceed to the registration desk, which will be set in the fourth floor (in honor of William Labov!), in room 4116 (where the Ph.D. Program in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literatures and Languages is located). Please carry your conference badge during the day when you exit and reenter the building.

Logistics Inside the Building

Room 4116 will be the conference headquaters. The registration desk will be located there and volunteers will be able to provide you with information and assistance. In case of emergency, our department's phone number is 1-212-817-8410. There will be coffee and cookies throughout the day. There is also a cafeteria in the first floor/street level to the right of the Security desk.

The sessions will take place in rooms 4102 (in the fourth floor) and rooms C204 and C205 (both in the concourse level - take an elevator going down and press "C").

The plenary lecture will be in room C201/202/203.



Glucksman Ireland House (Friday, April 7, 2017)

Glucksman Ireland House

Glucksman Ireland House is located at 1 Washington Mews, at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Washington Square Park. The main entrance opens onto 5th Ave and is located on the first block north of Washington Square on the east side of the street.

Access and Registration

The door will be open to visitors on Friday starting at 8:30 am. For those who still need to register or check-in, the information table will be located downstairs and straight across the hall. Coffee and tea will be served in the basement lounge near the registration table.

Silver Center

19 University Place Building

Two of the panel session rooms (rooms 101 and 102) can be found on the main floor of Ireland House.

The third location for sessions will be room 408 in the Silver Center, 31 Washington Place, located on the east side of Washington Square Park

Plenary sessions at NYU will take place at 19 University Place, room 102. This room will be located to the left on the ground floor as you enter. The building guard will direct you to the room.
